Learning Center Testimonial

“As a biology major at Cal State Northridge (CSUN), I am well on my way to a nursing degree. However; not too long ago, this picture was not as clear as it is today. About ten years ago, I was struggling in school. My average grades would make a quality university a difficult proposal. As a third grader at Mary Immaculate School, I wanted to improve my grades so I could realize my dreams for the future. A flyer I discovered for the Learning Center at Valley Family Center proved to be a seminal moment in my life. I needed a place where I could concentrate. The distractions at my school were preventing me from being a better student. I decided to give the Learning Center After School Program at Valley Family Center a try, and I’m glad I did. I now hope to one day become a Pediatric Registered Nurse and continue to be committed to volunteering every week in the Learning Center. ”

Quotes from kids in the Victims of Domestic Violence Groups

“I learned that there’s a cycle of violence in the family circle.”

“No matter how hard the situation is, always stay positive.”

“I learned to forgive someone and talk about my feelings.”

“Violence is never the answer. And that you should always be yourself and not care what people say about you.”

“…When you get mad you can calm yourself by listening to music or to think about something else. Also I learned that talking with someone else about your problems can help you take them off your head and not think about it a lot.”
